Money and getting paid
Tracking time
Logging time against tasks, marking work billable, and what the reports do with it.
Time is logged against a task, by a person, on a date.
Logging time
Open a task and use Log time — or, quicker, hover any row on My work and use the timer button there, which is usually where you are when you're thinking about what the day went on. Enter time the way you'd say it — 2h 30m, 1d 4h, 45m, 5.5h — and Waymarq parses it. A day means your working day (8 hours), not 24.
When was it worked? defaults to today and takes any earlier date. Most time gets written up
the morning after it was done, and logging yesterday's hours against today quietly makes every
report — and every invoice narrative — wrong about which day the work fell on. The entry still
records when you typed it up; the date says when the work happened.
Add a note if it's worth remembering what the time went on.
The task sidebar shows a running total, and the Work log tab lists every entry with who and when.
Billable status
Each task is billable, internal or non-billable:
- Billable — client work you intend to charge for. The default.
- Internal — your own work: admin, tooling, tech debt.
- Non-billable — client-facing work you've chosen not to charge for. Goodwill, warranty, a fix that should have worked first time.
Internal and non-billable are genuinely different questions and are kept apart on purpose. The distinction is what lets you answer "how much did we give away?" separately from "how much time went on our own overheads?"
Commercial data, so viewers never see it.
Turning time into money
On an hourly project, unbilled billable time becomes a line on a statement — hours multiplied by the project rate. On a fixed fee project it deliberately doesn't: the hours are already paid for by the fee, and billing them again would be charging twice for the same work.
Reports
- Time log report — everything logged across the organisation, filtered by date, client and person, split by billable / internal / non-billable.
- Workload report — open tasks per person by status, with overdue counts. Who's overloaded, and who has room.
- Per-project, the Budget tab shows hours logged and cost so far.
Turning it off
If you don't track time, switch Time tracking off per project (Project settings → Features). The Work log tab, the sidebar total and the Log time button all disappear rather than sitting there unused.
Time as money on the overview
Once a project has a price, the overview's effort card turns logged hours into money: on an hourly project, what the hours have cost at the rate; on a fixed fee, the fee and what it works out to per hour so far — the number that tells you whether the job is paying. Nothing shows for a project with no price or one marked as not billed.
